When Varsity has a match away, JV will have a match or practice at home. When JV is
away, Varsity will have a practice or match at home. Sometimes the match/practice
schedule may change due to some schools not having a JV team, weather, or other
scheduling changes. Buses are available to bring the teams to most of the away
matches and return to SCHS anywhere from 6pm-7:30pm depending on where our
matches are played. Be flexible to see some changes in the schedule during the
season.
Be aware of the match schedule and the release time from class. For early release
from class, please let your instructor know at the BEGINNING of class (before the bell
rings) when you need to leave. You will also need to check out and sign out in the
administration office to ensure you aren’t marked tardy or absent.
If you are not going to attend practice or a match, you must contact your coach and
communicate your absence before practice or 24 hours prior to a match.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Boys Tennis is a spring sport with the regular season typically running from mid-
February through mid-April each year. Sage Creek High School (SCHS) has both
Varsity and JV Boys Tennis Teams, each with about 12-16 players. Practices and
matches are held during the week after school with most matches on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, and practices on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fridays are optional “Fun
Fridays” for open play tennis from 3:30-5:30pm.
Tryouts are held each year near the beginning of February. If you are interested in
playing on the team, please be practicing and have knowledge of the game, skills and
strokes involved in tennis as well as scoring. You must also have your ATHLETIC
CLEARANCE completed before tryouts.
At a match the coaches and captains present their line-ups: 3 singles players and 3
doubles teams from each school followed by alternates. Each round is 6 matchups: 3
singles matches and 3 doubles matches (all schools have at least 6 tennis courts). In
the first round the number one singles players from each line-up play each other, the
number one doubles teams from each line-up play each other, the number twos play
each other, and so on. They play one full set (no ad scoring), with a 7-point tiebreaker at
6-6 if necessary. When they finish, the next round starts and rotates with the players
playing line 1 against line 2, line 2 against line 3 and line 3 against line 1. The third
round would be the remaining matchups, line 1 against line 3, line 2 against line 1 and
line 3 against line 2. Players can be substituted out for another player to come in and
play but once taken out that player cannot be placed back in the match. All scores are
entered into the high school WTN website once complete. These scores go toward the
athletes World Tennis Number rating.
The Sage Creek Bobcats are a very competitive tennis team in the county and typically
advance to the team CIF tournament at the end of the season. In addition, a few players
may qualify for the post-season individual CIF tournament as well.
