GENERAL INFORMATION
Girls Tennis is a fall sport with the regular season typically running from mid-August through mid-October each year. Sage Creek High School (SCHS) has both Varsity and JV Girls Tennis Teams, each with about 12-16 players. Practices and matches are held during the week after school with most matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and practices on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fridays details will be announced during the season
Tryouts are held each year near the beginning of August. If you are interested in playing on the team, please be practicing and have knowledge of the game, skills and strokes involved in tennis as well as scoring. You must also have your ATHLETIC CLEARANCE completed before tryouts.
At a match the coaches and captains present their line-ups: 3 singles players and 3 doubles teams from each school followed by alternates. Each round is 6 matchups: 3 singles matches and 3 doubles matches (all schools have at least 6 tennis courts). In the first round the number one singles players from each line-up play each other, the number one doubles teams from each line-up play each other, the number twos play each other, and so on. They play one full set (no ad scoring), with a 7-point tiebreaker at 6-6 if necessary. When they finish, the next round starts and rotates with the players playing line 1 against line 2, line 2 against line 3 and line 3 against line 1. The third round would be the remaining matchups, line 1 against line 3, line 2 against line 1 and line 3 against line 2. Players can be substituted out for another player to come in and play but once taken out that player cannot be placed back in the match. All scores are entered into the high school WTN website once complete. These scores go toward the athletes World Tennis Number rating.
The Sage Creek Bobcats are a very competitive tennis team in the county and typically advance to the team CIF tournament at the end of the season. In addition, a few players may qualify for the post-season individual CIF tournament as well.
Vision Statement for the Sage Creek High School Tennis Program
Our Vision
The Sage Creek High School Tennis Program exists to develop confident, resilient young adults who excel both on and off the court. We envision a program where every student-athlete discovers their potential through the discipline of tennis while building lifelong character, leadership skills, and meaningful relationships that extend far beyond graduation.
Core Values and Purpose
Our program is built on the foundation that tennis serves as a powerful vehicle for personal growth and academic excellence. We believe that the mental toughness developed through competitive tennis translates directly into classroom success, college preparation, and future career achievement. Each practice, match, and team interaction is designed to reinforce the values of integrity, perseverance, sportsmanship, and mutual respect.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where athletes of all skill levels can thrive. Whether a player is picking up a racquet for the first time or competing at the highest levels, our program provides personalized development pathways that challenge everyone to reach their full potential. We recognize that success is measured not only in wins and losses, but in personal growth, academic achievement, and the positive impact our athletes make in their communities.
Athletic Excellence and Character Development
Our vision encompasses both competitive success and character formation. We strive to field teams that compete at the highest level while maintaining the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship. We believe that true champions are made through consistent effort, strategic thinking, and the ability to perform under pressure while respecting opponents, officials, and teammates.
The program emphasizes the development of life skills that serve our athletes well beyond high school. Through tennis, our players learn time management, goal setting, problem-solving, and leadership. They develop the confidence to take calculated risks, the resilience to bounce back from setbacks, and the emotional intelligence to support their teammates through both victories and defeats.
Community and Legacy
We envision our program as a cornerstone of school spirit and community pride. Our athletes serve as ambassadors for the school, demonstrating excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship. We foster connections with local tennis clubs, middle schools, Southern California Special Olympics, and alumni networks to create opportunities for mentorship and continued growth.
The legacy we build extends through generations of student athletes who carry forward the values and lessons learned through their tennis experience.
Most importantly, we commit to nurturing young adults who leave our program with the confidence, skills, and character to pursue their dreams and make a meaningful difference in the world.
