Water Polo, Boys

Upcoming Games

As coaches, we firmly believe in the value of developing young people of character through the sport of water polo. Our goal is to help our athletes develop skills to be successful in life, and as an added bonus, succeed in sport.

For boys, our first practice will be August 12th at 6:45pm at Alga Norte Aquatic Center.

Practice Schedules-
For water polo athletes, in water pool time is of the utmost importance. These training sessions are the journey to greatness! We’ll be having practices in the evening at Alga Norte Aquatics Center in Carlsbad, and possibly elsewhere. There will be other opportunities for weights, classroom, and film sessions, but I can’t stress how important water practices will be for development. As we sort out our pool time, I’ll keep updating the schedule linked below.

Game Schedules-
I’m including a link below to the google calendar we’re using as our schedule for now. Both the boys and girls teams will be in the Valley League of the North County Conference. We will be in Division 3 in the San Diego CIF section. You can plan on 2-3 tournaments on Friday/Saturdays and around 10 weekday games against individual opponents.

Player Recruiting-
As a new program we need more players. Here’s some sporting experiences I’ve seen that translate well to water polo: basketball, baseball, swimming, soccer, softball, lacrosse, football, rugby, hockey. If you have a friend not doing a sport in either the fall or winter, bring them out! We will be building up skills from the basics, so anyone can be successful.

Out of Season training-
Once we start competing in season, you will notice the most competitive teams have athletes who play year round on clubs. I’m including links to Carlsbad boys water polo and Seaside girls water polo which are the two closest clubs to Carlsbad. These are both excellent out of season training opportunities, but they do cost money as private enterprises. Any club in our area is a great place to develop, and if you have questions about that, I’d be happy to talk at length. Summer is a great time to join a club. For girls, the fall is a pretty good time for pre season before the winter.

Athletic Clearance-
We have strict policies on getting cleared before playing. The coaches will not allow athletes to train until they are fully cleared. Here’s the link to Sage Creek’s clearance process: https://sagecreek.homecampus.com/athletic-registration/

Fundraising-
As with all high school sports we will need to fundraise. This first year, we will ask for a donation from families, and use an app. My goal would be to use our fundraising efforts to lower the yearly ask from families. These funds will go towards: coaching stipends, tournament fees, training equipment, team swag etc.

That’s it for now! Please reach out if you have questions or need something from me. I’m looking forward to building outstanding programs. Hopefully we can set up meet and greets in the summer.

If you are not interested in playing please respond to me and I can remove you from our list.
